Pre-Professional Program

The Center’s audition-based Pre-Professional Program prepares dedicated and passionate dancers ages 9-17 for a career in the Dance Arts.  Pre-professionals participate in a rigorous training program and learn necessary skills that prepare them for entry into a professional dance company, including those operating out of The Center.  All classes are conducted in accordance with the National Standards for Dance Education, used by higher universities throughout the nation, and provide the student with a comprehensive approach to the dance arts.  Classes are designed to train the Pre-Professional in areas of technique, artistic development, production, wellness/nutrition and arts management.  Additionally, all Pre-Professionals attend monthly mentorship workshops, where industry professionals offer guidance in audition preparation, business management and career longevity.  Detailed audition information follows:

Audition Information

Auditions for entry into the Pre-Professional Program take place in the context of any Intermediate or Advanced Level Class listed on the Class Schedule.  Auditions take place at The Center for Contemporary Dance.  Interested candidates should come prepared to take an intermediate/advanced-level class and learn a short piece of choreography.  Candidates must wear all black dance attire that clearly shows the line of the body; footwear is optional.  Admission results will be disclosed immediately following the class/audition.  After the audition, parents and students will have the opportunity to speak at length with The Center's Directors to learn more about the requirements and expectations of the Pre-Professional Program.  Candidates not yet ready for the program will also receive class recommendations to prepare them for future entry into the Pre-Professional Program.  To schedule your audition, please contact us or send an Information Request confirming your participation
