The
Creative Movement Academy is a specialty program where students
ages 2 through 9 learn the basic building blocks of dance in
preparation for more structured dance classes. Using a play-oriented
approach, classes in this program are dynamic,
developmentally-appropriate and fun. They also contain essential skill-building
exercises designed according to the National Standards for Dance
Education.
This
highly effective approach allows young students to gain skills in
coordination, rhythm, creative expression, critical thinking, and
spatial awareness that provide the foundation for confident
dancers-to-be. And even
if students aren’t destined to become professional dancers, skills
learned in The Creative Movement Academy prepare children for
success in other arenas, including education, sports and other
artistic endeavors.
Facilitated by dance educators
with years of experience in their field, The Creative Movement
Academy includes the following class
options:
Move It, Baby!
For
children ages 2-3, this class introduces new movers to rhythm and
coordination skills necessary for higher level classes. A parent or caregiver may
attend this mommy-and-me-style class.
Creative Movement I
For
children ages 4-5, this class integrates creative expression and
coordinated movement, allowing students to practice skills in
storytelling and critical thinking while making further advances in
rhythm, coordination and spatial awareness. Students
explore various dance styles, including ballet, jazz, modern and
contemporary/lyrical.
Creative Movement II
For
children ages 5-6, this class further develops the connection
between movement and artistic expression using a more integrative
approach to rhythm, coordination and storytelling. Students in this class also
begin to learn basic principles in choreography. Students
explore various dance styles, including ballet, jazz, modern and
contemporary/lyrical.
Creative Movement III
For
advanced students ages 6-9, this class incorporates a higher level
of structure and creative expression, providing the bridge for entry
into The Center’s General Dance
Studies Program. Students
explore various dance styles, including ballet, jazz, modern and
contemporary/lyrical.
