The Creative Movement Academy is a specialty
program where students ages 2 through 7 learn the basic
building blocks of dance in preparation for more structured dance
classes. Using a
play-oriented approach, classes in this program are dynamic,
developmentally-appropriate and fun. They also contain essential skill-building
exercises designed according to the National
Standards for Dance
Education.
This highly effective approach allows young students to gain
skills in coordination, rhythm, creative expression, critical
thinking, and spatial awareness that provide the foundation for
confident dancers-to-be.
And even if students aren’t destined to become professional
dancers, skills learned in The Creative Movement Academy prepare
children for success in other arenas, including education, sports
and other artistic endeavors.
Facilitated by dance educators with years of experience in their
field, The Creative Movement Academy consists of the
following opportunites:
Introductory Assessments
Parents are encourged to bring children to a free
trial class for assessment and placement. Assessment
classes take place each Saturday at 10am (children 2-4) and Thursday
at 5:30pm (children 5-7) at The Center for
Contemporary Dance. Participating children should
wear all black attire comfortable for movement; the assessment is
conducted barefoot. After the assessment,
parents will have the opportunity to speak at length
with The Center's Directors to learn more about The Creative
Movement Academy.
