The
Center for Contemporary Dance produces work for these founding
companies:
Founding Company: Moore Dance
Project
Moore Dance Project was founded in 2001 by The Center's Artistic
Director, Dario J. Moore. The Company operates as
an umbrella initiative under which distinct dance ensembles
showcase diverse perspectives in dance, including those relevant to
people of color, world cultures and aging adults. Notably,
Moore Dance Project includes the area's first African-American dance
ensemble as well as the area's first contemporary dance ensemble
composed entirely of dancers ages 55 and older.
Dancers in the Project are mature, talented and
fearless professionals who freely take
emotional and creative risks on stage.
The Company’s work has been described as moving,
insightful and transformative. Fusing contemporary and lyrical dance,
Moore Dance seamlessly blends elegance and rawness, taking
audiences to new places artistically and emotionally. Please

performances by Moore Dance Project. If you are interested in auditioning for the
Company, please visit our Auditions

Founding Company: U-Turn Dance
Company
U-Turn Dance
Company
is The Center's youth ensemble (ages 9-17),
which made its Central Florida debut in 2001 and performs regularly
both in mainstage productions as well as
in specialty arts-education programs throughout Central Florida
and
nationally. The company was founded by The
Center's Artistic
Director, Dario J. Moore, as platform
for young dancers to gain professional dance
experience.
Entry into the company is highly selective. All
U-Turn Dance members receive yearly scholarships
that allow them to expand their professional training at The
Center. The company is primarily dedicated to meeting the
artistic needs of talented youth from economically challenged
families. Many members of the company are selected directly
from The Center's Pre-Professional Program. If you are
interested in auditioning for U-Turn Dance Company or the
Pre-Professional Program, please contact us
to schedule an audition.

In alignment with our mission to build a
culture of contemporary dance in Central Florida, The Center
also supports these resident dance companies (Learn more
about the Residency Program and past resident dance
companies):
Patelworks Dance
Theater (in residency since 2007)
Founded in 2006 by Artistic Director and
choreographer Smruti Patel, Patelworks Dance Theater produces work that is
primarily a fusion of classical Indian dance and post-modern/contemporary dance. The mission of Patelworks Dance Theater is two-fold: (1) to take culture and art
through dance to underrepresented populations that would otherwise
not have access to such experiences and (2) to raise funds for
charitable organizations.
DRIP (in residency since
2007)
Founded in 2006 by Artistic Director and
choreographer Jessica Mariko, DRIP is a performance art company with
a strong focus on movement and art direction. During
performances, dancers create and often become visual art themselves
by blending movement, artistic mediums and props. The dance-artists are driven
by inspiration and have been recognized for compelling performances
that make audiences think, feel and reflect. Learn more
at www.ilovedrip.com.
