Colours of Courage:  A Celebration of Black History in America 

Colours of Courage

Created for presentation at theatres, schools and organizations celebrating Black History, Colours of Courage blends contemporary dance, cultural music and historically accurate narratives to trace the triumphs and challenges of the African-American experience. Beginning in 17th-century Africa and moving forward in time through significant events, Colours of Courage artistically explores African-American history up to the present day.  This powerful performance engages, educates and inspires audiences of all ages. This program must be booked 90 days in advance.  Shorter selections from this program may be booked 30 days in advance.

 

 

Program Length:  One hour.  All programs can be edited to suit to your needs.

Artistic Themes:  African-American history, triumph, integrity and courage.

Educational Standards:  This program includes a teacher's lesson plan that meets the Sunshine State Standards in Dance.

Areas of Exploration:  This program can be presented with moderated discussions about social injustice and tolerance.

PRIMORDIA:  The WatchKeeper

PrimordiaA contemporary ballet about an ancient kingdom frozen in time—until its estranged Princess returns to set in motion a series of events that leave all inhabitants changed forever.  Inspired by classic fairy tales, themes of magic and transformation are used to explore collective aspects of the human experience.  PRIMORDIA tosses aside storybook portrayals of one-dimensional characters in favor of more realistic interpretations of people with a depth and humanity that extends beyond make-believe.  The result is an unforgettable journey to the true meaning of love.  This program must be booked 90 days in advance. Shorter selections from this program may be booked 30 days in advance.

Retrograde

Retrograde

Blending grace and emotion, Retrograde is a thought-provoking contemporary ballet about the journey from revolution to reconciliation.  Daring choreography, powerful music and poetic storytelling collide in this exploration of the truths we hold, the conflicts we create and the paths we take to rediscover our fundamental connection to one another.  Moving between sorrow and joy, Retrograde, above all else, is a celebration of hope, determination and the relentless search for unity.  Appropriate for ages 12 and older.  This program must be booked 120 days in advance.

 

Program Length:  One hour.  All programs can be edited to suit to your needs.

Artistic Themes:  Tolerance, understanding and forgiveness

Educational Standards:  This program includes a teacher's lesson plan that meets the Sunshine State Standards in Dance.

MAKULU:  A Contemporary African Tale

Makulu

Animal allegories collide in this heartfelt African tale about a Serengeti wildebeest who must take the the journey of a lifetime to discover the legacy that lives within her.  Exciting African dance and a beautiful African score come together in a story that will leave audiences inspired and moved.  Based on actual ecological events that occur each year in the Serengeti, MAKULU is a cultural, artistic and educational experience for all ages.  This program, in its entirety, must be booked 150 days in advance.  Shorter selections from this program may be booked 30 days in advance.

 

 

Program Length:  One hour.  All programs can be edited to suit to your needs.

Artistic Themes:  African culture, Serengeti ecology, family and perseverence.

Educational Standards:  This program includes a teacher's lesson plan that meets the Sunshine State Standards in Dance.

Areas of Exploration:  This program can be presented with moderated discussions about Serengeti ecology and African culture.

Custom performances and movement workshops of any length are designed in collaboration with your organization—simply give us the theme and desired program length and let our artists handle the rest.  Add an unforgettable touch of elegance and artistry to your next event with one of our tailor-made performances.  Or, host a creative movement workshop in which participants learn skills in choreography, storytelling, artistic expression, critical thinking and confidence-building.  Custom performances must be booked 30 to 150 days in advance, depending on the scale of the production.  Custom workshops must be booked 30 days in advance.
